EIDOS INFOCENTRE

Contemporary art for most people in Ukraine not only unsophisticatedspectators but also for many professionals (artists, curators,journalists, teachers, theorists) is still a relative and undefinedterm and phenomenon. The reasons are obvious: Educational institutionsof contemporary art do not exist at all. Academic programs of existingart schools are conservative and indifferent to contemporary arttendencies. Therefore for the development of contemporary art aplatform, which consists of information and communication is neededurgently. EIDOS will assist to overcome this gap and initiates an EIDOSInfoCenter which is to be the source of information on contemporary artand a forum of discussion of current issues of importance in Ukraineand in the world.

ART CONFERENCE

The Round table “The Museum of Contemporary art as a laboratory of visual realization of actual human feelings and ideas” held in May 2007 was a highlight of the "EIDOS 2006/07" International Visual Art Competition, discussing the role of the Modern art museum as a means of communication in today’s world.

CONTEMPORARY ART – NEW TERRITORIES

“Contemporary Art - New Spaces” is a unique publication for Ukraine. It is an analytical report of the International Conference “Contemporary Art – New Spaces”, that took place in November 2005. The conference was an important step in developing the analytical framework of contemporary art studies in Ukraine. The National University and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine were key supporters of the event.

The publication came to life largely because of the efforts of Ludmila Bereznitsky. The report was published in both Ukrainian and English.

“EIDOS 2006/2007” INTERNATIONAL VISUAL ARTS COMPETITION

The “EIDOS-2006/07” Competition was professionally juried international exhibition, and one of the first initiatives in Ukraine aimed at supporting young artists. The goal of the Competition was to attract a wide selection of young artists, giving them a chance to show their work on national and international exhibitions. The competition took place with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine and the Delegation of the European Commission in Ukraine.

WORKSHOPS “EUROPEAN STANDARDS IN JOURNALISM”

There is plenty of room for developing journalism standards in Ukraine. Precisely for this reason, EIDOS took it upon themselves to create a series of workshops titled “European Standards in Journalism”. The second workshop took place in November 2006 featuring controversial Austrian art critic and curator Ursula Probs.

INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITIONS

“Eastern Neighbours” – Ukraine moving West

EIDOS was part of the 2007 International Contemporary Art Exhibition “Eastern Neighbours” that took place in Utrecht Netherlands. Artists from 12 Eastern European countries presented their work to a wide international audience. Ludmila Bereznitsky, the President of EIDOS, curated the project, becoming a key driving force in placing Ukrainian contemporary art on a European scene.

The event was generously supported by the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Netherlands.
