Art is not able to change the world |
The “Ukrainian Week” magazine, June 20th, 2008.
One of the world most influential contemporary art curators Roger Burgel was invited by ICF EIDOS and Goethe-Institut.Ukraine to lead the workshop ‘CONTEMPORARY ART AND SOCIETY’.
Roger Burgel has diagnosed the Ukrainian art. Larysa Danylenko
Documenta was founded during the crisis period for German society. It could be said that it was a reaction to the challenge, faced by German society after the failure of the Enlightenment project. That is to say, its aim lies in discovering some new project, new ways, new ground for society unification. As for me, that is the main role of art. Of course it can’t be said that art influences society directly. But it can exert its influence in some indirect way. And it’s those traumatic situations, conflicts and misunderstandings that constitute material with which art can work by suggesting new points of view or asking to join the search. And, apart from it, recently we can observe a tendency when the works of art become design objects to more extent. In this situation Documenta functions as an antidote since its chief task is to make one think. read more... |

Urbanization Bulgarian Style Thoughts about contemporary art
Olena Golub
No doubts, there is something in common with capitals of different countries especially when they are on the level of non-capitalistic changes. Disproportion of building, flamboyance of advertisement, sudden monuments that assert doubtful values – all this evokes certain emotions of capital citizens. Current contemporary art sensitively catches and develops their moods in provocative actions and other forms of art which don’t reach gallery halls and are often exhibited in the streets. It is such kind of experience of reaction on a new urbanization that was being told about by Yara Bybnova, a special guest from Bulgaria invited by the EIDOS fund within the context of Gogol-Fest which was held in Kyiv recently. read more... |

The point is for the artists to paint pictures of actual food. We can assume there will be some stabs at vareniki and chicken Kyiv, as well as other stuff. The Eidos Fund, which has a good track record in presenting new contemporary art, is organising this. The exhibition will stand until 16 November. For more information call 496 12 83. |

Eidos Surprises Guests with Contemporary Art |
"WHAT'S ON", 22.10.07 HYATT The Eidos fund, which is active in the contemporary arts world, organised a three-in - one event on 11 October. The Fund showcased the new book it’s published about the idea of the contemporary art museum and its place in Ukrainian culture. But there was more, as the Chorny Kvadrat theatre group made an unusual pomo-style appearance in blindfolds, startling the event’s guests. Also, Glib Vysheslavsky displayed images on big plasma screens hung around the room. The impression was delightfully disorienting and, in a wold, artistic. Anastasiya Skorina |

Mariya BELYAEVA, “Hreshatyk” newspaper ¹ 132(3122) for 16.08.2007 Katrin Zinger-Zaharieva speaks about the territory of contemporary art and her own carrier in Kyiv. Katrin Zinger-Zaharieva, vice-president of “EIDOS” International Charity Foundation, plans to make Kyiv similar to other European capitals. Especially, with a help of festivals of contemporary art, one of which will be held this autumn. - How did you happen to be in Kyiv now? - I have been living here for almost 4 years. At first I worked as a correspondent in German and Austrian newspapers. I was lucky person, because Orange revolution began at that time and other countries began to show a great interest to the events in Kyiv. At the same time I became acquainted with a lot of people, whose work was connected with arts and culture. And suddenly one day I realized that it is much more interesting for me not to write about the events, but to be the active player. read more... |
