Clean City – Territory of the Art

On October 11, the “Clean City – Territory of the Art” action was held for the second time. It is initiated and carried by the Global Agreement in Ukraine network as a part of the national “Follow the Green!” campaign. This year EIDOS Arts Development Foundation participated in the event, as well.

Action is held, in the first place, thanks to the socially responsible companies in Ukraine, such as “Coca-Cola”, “Tetra Pak” and “Greenco”.

On a lovely sunny day, people who are concerned with the city’s cleanliness gathered on the Trukhaniv island. Among them being some official guests – Ministry of the Environmental Protection representatives, representatives of local administration and Nigeria and Finland ambassadors – and those, who have a feeling of personal responsibility for the cleanliness in the green zones of Kyiv. In collective effort a huge pile of trash was gathered – as a result of the action two garbage collectors were loaded.

During the action artists Alina Kopytsia, Olga Abyshkina and the “Interesting Fairy-tales” group were working on their art projects. Alina and Olga utilized garbage gathered from the island area as art supplies. Olga told us, that the dragon she depicted symbolizes an environmental disaster. Right now, it is sleeping, but the awakening can be very close if the society remains ignorant about the problem of trash in the streets of Kyiv.

The number of people who participated in the action and the mass media attention it aroused signifies the importance and urgency of the garbage problem.
